We Built This Because We Needed It Ourselves

Back in 2019, we were drowning in receipts and spreadsheets. Our own businesses were growing, but our expense tracking was basically chaos. So we built something that actually worked for us.

Our Beginning

Started in a Melbourne Cafe With Three Laptops

It wasn't some grand vision. Remy Thornwick had been running a small consulting business for four years and spent more time sorting receipts than actually working. The breaking point came during tax season 2018 when she realized she'd lost thousands in deductions simply because tracking everything manually was impossible.

The tools out there were either too complicated or too simple. Nothing fit the actual workflow of someone juggling multiple projects, clients, and payment methods. So she teamed up with two developers who had the same problem and spent six months building what became quoraviantex.

We launched with 12 beta users in March 2019. All of them were friends who had the same receipt shoebox problem. By the end of that year, we had 400 users across Melbourne who'd found us through word of mouth.

How We Think About Money Tracking

Most expense tools are built by accountants for accountants. We built ours for people who just want to know where their money goes without needing a finance degree.

Speed Over Perfection

Logging an expense should take five seconds, not five minutes. We stripped out every unnecessary field and question. Your time is worth more than perfectly categorized data that you'll never look at anyway.

Mobile First Reality

You're not sitting at a desk when you need to log expenses. You're at the hardware store or grabbing coffee between meetings. Our mobile experience isn't an afterthought because that's where most tracking actually happens.

Insights That Matter

We don't bury you in charts and graphs. You get three numbers that actually affect your decisions: where you're spending, what you can cut, and whether you're on track. Everything else is just noise.

Who's Actually Running This

Remy Thornwick

Founder & Product Lead

Previously ran a consulting business for six years. Built quoraviantex after spending too many weekends sorting receipts. Still handles most customer support emails personally.

The Real Day-to-Day

Our team is seven people working across Melbourne and Sydney. We don't have departments or fancy titles. Everyone talks to customers, everyone sees support tickets, and everyone has opinions about features. It keeps things honest because you can't ignore problems when you're the one answering emails about them.

What Drives Our Decisions

We read every piece of feedback. Not kidding. Remy still reviews support conversations weekly and half our feature updates come directly from user suggestions. When someone says they're switching to a competitor, we ask why and actually listen. That's shaped more of our roadmap than any strategy meeting ever has.

Our Actual Values

We're allergic to corporate speak, so here's what matters: build things that work, charge fair prices, and don't waste people's time. If a feature doesn't save you effort or give you useful information, we don't build it. Simple tools for complex lives.

Six Years of Building

We've come a long way from that Melbourne cafe, but the core idea hasn't changed: make expense tracking something you actually want to do.

March 2019

Launch With Beta Users

Twelve friends tested our first version. Half the features didn't work properly, but the core tracking was solid enough that people kept using it. That told us we were onto something.

October 2020

Mobile App That Actually Works

Rebuilt the entire mobile experience from scratch after realizing most people were trying to use our web version on phones. This was when usage really took off because it finally fit how people actually worked.

June 2022

Receipt Scanning That Doesn't Suck

Added OCR technology that could actually read Australian receipts properly. Sounds basic, but most tools were optimized for US formats. This saved users an average of 12 minutes per week.

February 2024

Business Plan Launch

Released team features after 200 users asked for them. Started with simple expense approval workflows and multi-user access. Nothing fancy, just what small businesses actually needed.

September 2024

Integration Overhaul

Connected with Xero, MYOB, and major Australian banks. Cut manual data entry by about 70% for users who needed accounting software sync. This was our most requested feature for three years straight.

January 2025

Smart Categorization

Launched predictive categorization that learns from your patterns. Not AI hype, just practical pattern matching that gets smarter the more you use it. Reduces manual categorization by about 80% after the first month.

What Actually Guides Us

These aren't poster values. They're the principles that settle arguments when we're deciding what to build or how to handle a tough situation. They've been consistent since 2019 because they're based on how we actually work, not how we think we should sound.

Respect People's Time

If we can't explain a feature in one sentence, it's too complicated. Your day is already full. Expense tracking shouldn't require a manual or training videos. Everything should be obvious or we've failed.

Talk Like Humans

No corporate jargon. No "synergy" or "leveraging solutions." We write emails the same way we'd explain things to a friend. If it sounds like it came from a marketing department, we rewrite it until it doesn't.

Charge What's Fair

Our pricing is straightforward because surprise fees are annoying. We make enough to keep building and supporting the product properly. That's it. We're not trying to maximize shareholder value or hit aggressive growth targets.

Fix Problems Fast

When something breaks, we drop everything else. No ticket queues that take three days. Most support emails get answered within a few hours because that's how we'd want to be treated if our expense tracking suddenly stopped working.

Want to See How It Works?

We offer a two-week trial with full access to everything. No credit card required, no automatic billing. Just a chance to see if quoraviantex actually saves you time.
